Google announces Google Sites as part of Google Apps

Google Sites makes creating a team web site as easy as editing a document. You can quickly gather a variety of information in one place — including videos, calendars, presentations, attachments, and gadgets — and easily share it for viewing or editing with a small group, your entire organization, or the world.

Create a single place to bring together all the information your team needs to share, including docs, videos, photos, calendars and attachments. The addition of Google Sites to Google Apps opens up major new possibilities for sharing information within a workgroup or publically on the Internet. Calendering and scheduling just got a whole lot easier.

Amazon ventures into hosting

Amazon expects Web Services to grow into a significant business segment. Amazon Web Services, as the business is called, could improve chances for a new generation of Web startups by slashing how much they spend up front on costly infrastructure. Amazon’s Elastic Computing Cloud (EC2) allows developers to host Internet applications on virtual computers in Amazon data centers around the world. The offerings include computational power (EC2), storage, database instances, payment processing and more. All these services are provided on a pay as you go basis making the technology available to small startups. Most of Amazon’s competitors demand a contract or minimum payments.
